Announcements

December 16, 2012

I recently learned from Gerhard Zarbock that he and Joan Farrell and Ida Shaw just released the Group Schema Therapy DVD-box!
Joan and Ida star in the leading roles as the group therapists, while many of our well known colleagues take the roles of patients.

The DVD offers over 7 hours of training material.
And, in addition to watching a complete session -- the DVD offers separate examples of commonly difficult and challenging situations; along with an interview with Joan and Ida.

Please see the attached flyer (below, "IVAH-GST DVD") for further details and information on how to order the DVD-box.

Please join me in congratulating them on this endeavor, and appreciating them for this important contribution to our Schema Therapy and Group Therapy communities.

Warm Regards,
Wendy,

Wendy Behary

Revised Edition of the Schema-Mode-DVD available
The DVD-box ‘Schema therapy, working with modes’ has been a great success since it was presented at the ISST conference in Berlin 2010. Schema therapists worldwide have ordered it, and in May 2011 the first edition was sold out. We are very pleased with the positive reactions we have received! We have now produced a second edition with some improvements to the mode exercises on the 5th DVD. We are very glad to present the revised edition of ‘Schema therapy, working with modes’! More information on the DVD-box is to be found on www.schematherapy.nl.

Dear Fellow Members of the ISST --

Several members have inquired about the use of the official ISST logo on their training materials and their promotional and web-page advertising of their ISST Board-Approved Certification Training Programs.

Following a discussion, collaboration, and with the consent of my fellow board members, I drafted this memorandum of agreement.
The memorandum is pasted below -- for those of you who may be interested in receiving authorization to utilize the logo.

PLEASE WRITE TO ME DIRECTLY: wendy.behary@gmail.com or wetb@aol.com, for further information.

Fond Regards,
Wendy

Memorandum of Agreement

Use of the ISST LOGO:

I, ______________________, request authorization from the Executive Board of
(Print Name)
The International Society of Schema Therapy (ISST) to utilize the official ISST logo based on the following limitations: to be displayed on promotional materials (including web-page advertising, marketing brochures, registration applications, attendee certificates of program completion, and attendee handouts) that are directly related to my ISST-approved certification training program.

I understand that this authorization ONLY applies to trainers who have already received written approval for their ISST certification training programs, from the Training Coordinator of the ISST Board.

I also agree to send a copy of all materials that will host the logo, including a link for my webpage where the logo will appear, to the ISST board president and board secretary, Wendy Behary and Eckhard Roediger: wendy.behary@gmail.com and kontakt@eroediger.de

I understand that any further use of the ISST logo is prohibited without the written consent of the ISST Board president.

As an active ISST member and representative of the “society”, I understand that the ISST Board can revoke this authorization should I fail to abide by this agreement, and/or violate customarily expected professional and ethical standards of clinical practice and clinical education.

September 2011

Dear Fellow ISST Members --

I hope everyone is enjoying the last stretch of summer...

The rhythm of the Samba still echoes... I have just returned home from an amazing experience in Porto Alegre, Brazil; where my lovely host, Ricardo Wainer (a psychologist who graduated from the certification program here in NJ -- about to receive his advanced certification) and his colleague (Neri Piccoloto, MD - also from the 2010 program) presented a wonderful conference for a 300-person audience of enthusiastic and potentially newly-emerging schema therapists.
What a warm, bright group of people I met. I think our ISST membership could grow significantly as this new country joins us in the coming years …Very exciting!

As I am making my way through an ocean of e-mails, I wish to apologize for the unfortunate but unavoidable delay in responding to many of your recent correspondence, and will do my best to get back to you as soon as possible.

I would like to put forth 3 important announcements:

1. Our 2012 Congress brochure is looking absolutely gorgeous, thanks to the beautiful and thoughtful work of George Lockwood, his son Galen, and Marleen Rijkeboer. You will soon see for yourself, as you will be receiving this brochure on the ListServ as well as on the ISST web-site. Here you will find all of the information about registering for the NYC Congress---to be held on May 17-19 at The NY Academy of Science!

2. Regarding the Trainers and Supervisors seminar -- as you know, this is a required module for all advanced certified schema therapists who wish to participate in ISST-approved training programs and courses, as supervisors and/or trainers. We have decided to extend the deadline for completion of this requirement to December 31, 2011. After this time, anyone who is participating in the role of trainer or supervisor in an ISST approved training course or program, must fulfill this seminar requirement before they can be recognized as an authorized trainer/supervisor. There will be seminars offered via webinars and in-person sessions, in various countries, each year…

3. I will be offering a Trainers/Supervisors Webinar: Friday, October 28, 2011 from 10AM-12:30PM (EST). Please do NOT reply to the ListServ, but instead to my e-mail address(es): wetb@aol.com or wendy.behary@gmail.com if you are interested in attending. I will post all of the details to the ListServ and the ISST web-site very shortly.

Wishing you all the very best…
Warmly,
Wendy

Dear Fellow ISST Members--

Please take a moment to check out some of the changes we have made on our ISST Web-Site.

Thanks to the thoughtful input of my fellow board members, along with many of your suggestions, and the technical competence and efforts of George Lockwood and his son Galen, we are improving the web-site to offer easier accessibility and a more logical, smoother flow of information:

1.You will see, when you click on the "tabs" for the "Training" or "Membership" pages (scroll to the bottom of these pages), that we have posted the new application forms for ISST membership, and newly updated guidelines and certification applications--both for training programs as well as individual certification in ST.

2.You will also notice, on the "Guidelines for Certification", a much clearer explanation of the expectations and requirements for certification, including a breakdown of the training requirements in "modules".

3.This means that if you are planning to host a "module" training workshop or lecture, (as opposed to a complete ISST-Approved certification training program) you must provide a certificate to your attendees so that they can submit the certificate(s) to the training coordinator when it comes time for them to apply for certification by "individual studies".
You can find these certificates on the web-page now.

4.Attendees who are working towards certification via "individual studies" should be sure to see that the training seminar offers these certificates to participants, and that the seminar meets all of the required ISST standards as posted in the Guidelines. Please carefully read ALL of the required elements that make a modular training seminar acceptable for "individual studies" certification.

5.There is now just ONE form for both certification from an approved training program or certification through individual studies!

6.If you have "graduated" from an ISST-approved certification training program (comprehensive program), you will not need to attach any certificates to your application -- this is only for individual studies / module programs.

7.If you are a trainer applying for ISST-approval for your comprehensive certification training program -- please note -- you must be able to provide supervision for all of your attending trainees either directly through your program or through pre-arranged relationships with other ISST programs or eligible supervisors.
These application forms for your programs are now available on the site as well.

We hope you will find this helpful.
We welcome and appreciate your further comments and suggestions...

Warmest Regards,
Wendy

RECENT BOARD DECISIONS:
On the last board conference at September 27th the board has decided, that from now on a training workshop for supervisors and trainers like Wendy gave it at the Berlin Conference is mandatory for an advanced certification to assure a minimum quality of certified training programs. The required length is between half a day and a day (4 to 8 h). The workshop participation can be replaced by a skype training about the same length. You can find further details of the content here

ISST Workgroup on Group Schema Therapy

I am pleased to announce the authorization by the ISST board of an official work group on developing Group Schema Therapy (GST).

The goals of the work group are:
1. To refine, and possibly expand, the GST model for a range of Axis II and I disorders. This would involve incorporating any others in the ISST working on group ST that have an evidence base
2. to develop adherence and competency scales for rating therapists conducting groups,
3. to explore and reach consensus within ISST about the best way to integrate GST certification into the current certification process.
4. if there is a consensus about GST certification, to identify the minimum criteria for training in GST and to explore how to integrate GST into existing training programs

The beginning ISST work group consists of those of us who have been working for the last two years on the treatment protocol for the collaborative multi-site BPD RCT now underway, and others who have expressed strong interest in GST. We have been discussing the group model and issues of training and certification with Jeff Young, so that we remain consistent with ST, and are very pleased that he has agreed to be part of the work group. We are also happy to have Arnoud Arntz as our research adviser and Hannie van Genderen as our adviser on training and certification issues.
